Our Journey

A civil engineer by education, Mangala, decided to follow her passion after a brief career at a corporate. In school, she was always interested in art and craft. As a young girl, she loved spending time with her grandmother and aunt during summer vacations. They were both craft teachers, and they passed down their skills to her.

Engineering simply happened. She met her future husband at the engineering college. Going further she got associated with his Bengali family. Little did she know that she would get introduced to Kantha embroidery and fall in love with that art. Not only was the embroidery beautiful, but it was also very intricate.

She has always been attracted to block prints even before knowing anything about their origins in India. The love for handcrafted materials has led her to experiment with different types of printing and handwoven fabrics made by the Indian artisans. Adding to this is the fact that these are environmentally sustainable unlike the machine made materials.

This online store was founded to act as a connect between the rural artisans on one hand and the busy city women on the other. It is an attempt to appreciate the beauty and intricacy of Indian handicraft, to encourage people to buy more and more hand woven, hand embroidered or hand block printed materials. These traditional techniques are slowly disappearing as machine-made products are becoming more common. By buying products that are dipped in love and passion of the Indian artisans, we can bring smiles on their faces and help preserve our heritage!
